Alyssa Kuykendall, a teenager with hearing loss, may begin to hear again today. Twice within the past three years, her hearing aids were destroyed when her parent’s house in Piqua caught fire. When the 17-year-old appeared on the Dr. Phil television show, she was donated a pair of hearing aids by Oticon, the world’s second largest hearing aid manufacturer.
The new hearing aids are digital and compatible with Kuykendall’s cell phone. Every time her phone rings, she will hear a beep in her ears. The hearing aid package is valued at more than $6,000.
“There is no price for that,” said her mother, Jennifer Stotler. “There are not enough words to say thank you.”
Kuykendall lost her hearing at an early age.
